Our mission: help organisations create safer, stronger, more effective environments where young people can thrive — and where professionals feel equipped and confident.

  • Direct work with young people presenting with complex behavioural needs
  • Operational leadership across social care and youth-focused services
  • Bridging the gap between policy and what actually works on the ground
  • Adapting to the real, evolving environments professionals work in today
Our Mission

To help organisations create safer, stronger, and more effective environments where young people can thrive.

Understanding Today's Context

The Gap
We Bridge

01

The Policy-Practice Gap

Staff are expected to manage complex situations without always having the tools or consistent support to do so. PathCore closes that gap.

02

Evolving Environments

Young people grow up in increasingly complex, fast-changing environments. Services must adapt — and PathCore helps them do exactly that.

03

Whole System Support

Meaningful change happens when organisations invest in their people, develop strong cultures, and adopt sustainable approaches. That's what we build.

Approach

Work Alongside Your Team

We work with your people, not above them — ensuring every strategy is understood, owned, and sustainable.

Testimonials & Case Studies

Real Stories.
Real Change.

The greatest measure of our work isn't what we say about ourselves—it's what the people we've supported have to say. Every young person, professional and organisation has a story. Here are just a few.

Why These Stories Matter

Trust Is Earned,
One Relationship
At A Time

Behind every referral, every training session and every late-night phone call is a simple truth: lasting change is built on trust. The young people we support have often learned—through experience—not to rely on adults. Rebuilding that trust takes patience, consistency and a genuine belief in who they can become.

That's why we never treat a young person as a case file or a set of behaviours to be managed. Every journey is unique, and so is every relationship we build. Some begin in crisis. Some begin with silence. All of them begin with showing up—and continuing to show up, long after others have stepped back.

We're equally proud of the professionals we work alongside. Social workers, deputy managers, youth organisations and frontline staff trust PathCore because we advocate honestly, challenge constructively and stay focused on one thing: the best possible outcome for the young person.

The stories on this page belong to the people who lived them. They've chosen to share them so that other organisations, professionals and young people know what's possible. We're honoured to be part of their journeys.

Transformation Stories

From Crisis To Confidence

These aren't testimonials—they're journeys. Told with permission, in their own words wherever possible, they show what long-term, relationship-led support really achieves.

Flagship Case Study

Mohammed's Story

"If you'd met me a few years ago, you probably wouldn't believe I'm the same person writing this today."

The Challenge

Mohammed came into care at around nine years old. From then on, life meant constant movement—different homes, different people, different professionals—always searching for somewhere that actually felt like home. He spent five years with a foster family who cared for him, but he never felt he truly fitted in; it felt like living in somebody else's home rather than having one of his own.

As he got older, the anger, pain and confusion he carried had nowhere to go, so it came out in his behaviour. By sixteen he was getting into trouble, making bad decisions and pushing people away. One of the lowest moments of his life came when he was arrested while his mum was visiting—the first time he'd seen her in over a year. The arrest was linked to a theft offence, but the court case dragged on for years: further allegations were added, hearings were delayed, and by the time everything finally reached court he was eighteen, genuinely convinced he was going to prison.

"He never spoke to me like I was another case or another problem that needed fixing. He spoke to me like a normal person."
Our Approach

When Darren met Mohammed, the first thing Mohammed noticed was that he was treated like a person, not a problem. Darren listened. He challenged Mohammed when he needed challenging and called him out when he was making excuses—but Mohammed always knew Darren was in his corner.

With the court case hanging over him, Darren didn't disappear. He supported Mohammed through the entire process, kept him focused when his head was all over the place, and constantly reminded him that one mistake didn't have to define the rest of his life. At sentencing, Darren came to court and spoke on Mohammed's behalf—telling the judge about the progress he'd made and the work he'd put into turning his life around.

The support went far beyond an office. They trained in the gym together. They had BBQs, went out into the community, visited places like Thorpe Park, and sometimes just sat and talked about life. At the time it felt like ordinary things—but those moments were quietly rebuilding what Mohammed had lost a long time ago: trust, confidence and belief.

The Outcome

The assault allegation was dropped, and although Mohammed received a community sentence for the theft offence, that day in court became the turning point of his life. The gym gave him discipline, routine and somewhere positive to put his energy—every week he grew stronger, physically and mentally. Around the same time, everything else began to shift: he started learning electrical work, supervising on sites, and developing skills in video graphics and design.

Today, Mohammed's life looks completely different. He's married. He has a stable home. He's building a future he never thought possible—still learning, still growing, and most importantly, finally believing in himself. His message to any young person reading his story: your past doesn't decide your future. No matter how angry, lost or misunderstood you feel, your story isn't finished.

Featured Case Study

Christian Selembo's Story

"It is an understatement to call him one of the most pivotal and momentous figures in my life."

The Challenge

Christian met Darren six years ago, at sixteen—at a time when, in his own words, he desperately needed someone, even if he couldn't admit it. He was dealing with severe anger issues, spending a lot of time out on the road, and heading down a rough path. He was deeply cynical and angry at the world, while quietly battling a heavy depression that he hid from everyone around him.

Our Approach

No amount of cynicism or internal darkness pushed Darren away. He exercised an undivided duty of care, sticking by Christian when few others would—consistently showing up, listening, and being a steady anchor until Christian found the strength to pull himself off that path.

Over the years, the relationship evolved far beyond that of a manager at a young person's home. Steady belief, patience and presence did what no quick fix could: they gave Christian solid ground to stand on.

"Thank you for never looking at me like a lost cause, and for being the steady ground I needed to finally stand on my own two feet."
The Outcome

The real proof of the work is where Christian is today. With Darren's steady belief behind him, he successfully transitioned out of the young people's home and into his own stable tenancy. Professionally, he has built genuine occupational prowess within the hospitality industry and is now actively working toward starting his own catering business.

His mental health, his work, his family relationships and his living situation are all in a place he never thought possible. Six years on, he no longer sees Darren simply as a former manager—he sees him as family.

What Professionals Say

Trusted By The People
Who Work With Us

From social workers to youth organisations and former colleagues—the professionals who've seen the work up close.

As a former employee of Darren, I experienced first-hand the genuine care, guidance, and encouragement he offers to both his colleagues and the young people he supports.

Youth work can be challenging, particularly when working with complex behaviours, but no matter how busy he was, he always made time to listen, offer reassurance, and provide thoughtful, practical solutions. His calm, patient, and compassionate approach gave me the confidence to grow in my role and approach difficult situations with greater understanding. The knowledge and guidance he shared continue to influence the way I work today.

What truly sets him apart is his ability to combine extensive experience with genuine kindness and empathy. He leads by example, always treating people with dignity and respect while remaining focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for young people. Reliable, approachable, and always willing to help, he is committed to bringing out the best in those around him.

I will always be grateful for his mentorship, patience, and unwavering support. I would wholeheartedly recommend his consultancy to any organisation or professional seeking expert guidance in youth work, behavioural management, and supporting vulnerable young people. His integrity, compassion, and practical approach make him an exceptional consultant who leaves a lasting positive impact.

Suhur Abdishakur
Deputy Manager · Newhaven16plus

I have had the pleasure of working alongside Darren Henry in my role as a Social Worker within a Specialist Exploitation Team, during his time managing a number of residential homes supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.

Throughout our professional relationship, Darren consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism, dedication and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children in his care. The young people placed within his homes often presented with complex needs and vulnerabilities, including exploitation, missing episodes, offending behaviour, emotional and mental health difficulties and significant trauma histories. Darren approached each young person with empathy, understanding and unwavering determination.

One of Darren's greatest strengths is his ability to build meaningful relationships with young people who are often reluctant to engage with professionals. Time and time again, I observed him successfully engage young people who had previously struggled to form positive relationships with adults.

Darren is insightful in his practice, solutions-focused, able to think creatively and always remains child-centred. Importantly, he is also a strong advocate for the young people he supports. He has never hesitated to challenge professionals appropriately, including Social Services, when he believed a young person's needs were not being fully recognised or met.

His commitment to making a difference, combined with his ability to build relationships, manage complex situations and work effectively with partner agencies, makes him an asset to any organisation. I would not hesitate to recommend him and have great respect for the work he does to improve the lives of vulnerable young people.

Bonnie Ward
Social Worker · Redbridge Specialist Exploitation Team

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our trainer for delivering such an engaging and inspiring session on effective communication for our youth club.

Your passion, knowledge, and practical approach made the training both enjoyable and impactful. You created a safe and encouraging environment where everyone felt comfortable participating, sharing ideas, and developing new skills.

The techniques and strategies you taught have given our young people greater confidence in expressing themselves, listening with empathy, and communicating respectfully with others. These are life skills that will benefit them not only within the youth club but also in their education, relationships, and future careers.

Thank you for investing your time, energy, and expertise into our youth group. Your encouragement has made a lasting impression, and we truly appreciate the positive difference you have made. We look forward to putting everything we've learned into practice and hope to work with you again in the future.

Collette Simpson
Director · Freedom Fridays Youth Club

I would highly recommend PathCore Development. Darren brings real frontline experience, not just theory, and that comes across clearly in the way he understands the challenges faced by staff, services, and young people.

The support is practical, honest, and focused on creating real improvement — whether around behaviour support, staff confidence, leadership, safeguarding, or service development. What stands out most is the ability to bridge the gap between policy and what actually works on the ground.

A professional, knowledgeable, and values-led service that genuinely understands the sector and the importance of achieving better outcomes for young people.
