I have had the pleasure of working alongside Darren Henry in my role as a Social Worker within a Specialist Exploitation Team, during his time managing a number of residential homes supporting some of our most vulnerable young people.
Throughout our professional relationship, Darren consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism, dedication and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children in his care. The young people placed within his homes often presented with complex needs and vulnerabilities, including exploitation, missing episodes, offending behaviour, emotional and mental health difficulties and significant trauma histories. Darren approached each young person with empathy, understanding and unwavering determination.
One of Darren's greatest strengths is his ability to build meaningful relationships with young people who are often reluctant to engage with professionals. Time and time again, I observed him successfully engage young people who had previously struggled to form positive relationships with adults.
Darren is insightful in his practice, solutions-focused, able to think creatively and always remains child-centred. Importantly, he is also a strong advocate for the young people he supports. He has never hesitated to challenge professionals appropriately, including Social Services, when he believed a young person's needs were not being fully recognised or met.
His commitment to making a difference, combined with his ability to build relationships, manage complex situations and work effectively with partner agencies, makes him an asset to any organisation. I would not hesitate to recommend him and have great respect for the work he does to improve the lives of vulnerable young people.
